Gina Sinclair Davis is a Ballet and Dance Major graduate of Arts Educational Trust College in London, UK, which at that time fed into The London Festival Ballet Company, now called The English National Ballet.
Born not far from London, UK, she attended a performing arts school from the age of 7 and performed professionally in a London West-End show at the tender age of 8 years old.
From age 17 onwards, Gina danced professionally with notable Ballet and Modern Dance Companies, major shows, and special events both in the UK and Canada.
Her ongoing extensive training, performing, and teaching led to her becoming an international Guest Master Ballet Teacher in both universities and private dance studios in Mexico, UK, Europe, Canada, and the USA.
Gina was deeply honoured when she was named one of the world’s 18 finest and most respected Master Ballet Teachers in the book "On Technique." She has also been recognised by the YWCA as a Woman of Distinction.
Now a freelance teacher and choreographer, Gina is the past Studio Director and owner of Sinclair Academy of Performing Arts, located in Victoria, BC, Canada, for over 20 years.
She is very proud of the many accomplishments of her students during that period in Royal Academy of Dance Graded and Vocational ballet exams, The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance Graded and Vocational exams in Ballet, National, Modern, and Tap.
Sinclair Academy Performing Group traveled extensively, and Sinclair Academy Choirs, comprised entirely of dancers, were backup singers for many artists and recordings. They won local, provincial, and Canadian voice competitions, and sung at International Choral Kathaumixw!
Sinclair Academy dancers and singers performed for all three levels of government, many local charities and organizations, and performed many times as guest artists with The Victoria Symphony under the direction of Tania Miller and Peter McCoppin.
The Sinclair Academy performing group presented 90-minute shows in Alaska, California, The Hawaiian Islands, Mexico, and Honduras on cruise ships and in theatres. They also performed in local schools, and in school outdoor yards as well as participating in local service projects. Such memorable experiences for every Sinclair Academy Performer.
The ‘jewel’ in the crown for Gina were her classes offered to students with (Dis)abilities. Sinclair Academy was the first performing arts studio in Western Canada, and perhaps across Canada, to introduce classes and performance opportunities to special needs dancers, integrating them into performances with the rest of the studio population, where they brought great energy and joy to the whole studio.
Gina is very proud of all her students who are now engaged professionally in Theatre, Dance, and Performing Arts. Some have taught or are teaching or choreographing in Canada and internationally; some have danced professionally with dance companies such as Toronto Dance Theatre, Tap Kids, on cruise ships, etc. Some are in the movie and modeling industries. They are at Joffrey Ballet, Princess Grace of Monaco Ballet Academy, Modus Operandi, at SFU Dance - School for the Contemporary Arts, and at YAGP Bolshoi School N.Y.
They have attended Canada's National Ballet School and the NBS teacher training program, The Royal Winnipeg Ballet professional dance program, Alberta Ballet and Ballet Victoria Aspirant Programs, and The Canadian College of Performing Arts. Some are Dance company directors, Dance studio owners, Dance Physiotherapists, and even a Royal Academy of Dance Global Ballet Examiner.
Upcoming talent is also amazing … lots to watch out for!
Gina has also spent many seasons as a Rehearsal Assistant for Russian, American, and Canadian ballet companies, teaching roles for Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, Giselle, Cinderella, and The Nutcracker, of which Gina says she has learned and taught at least 8 or more different versions.
Her huge love and passion for ballet and the performing arts show every moment she is adjudicating, or in the studio teaching, coaching, mentoring, choreographing, as well as whenever she is in the audience, backstage, at the side of the stage, or even when she is on-stage dancing character roles!
As an educator, Gina encourages and motivates her students in class to feel confident about themselves. She encourages them to follow their dreams, to find joy in both class and in performance settings, and as ‘Artistic Athletes’ to be proud of their efforts and accomplishments.
From their first day in class, the physicality and passion of movement, the technique, and understanding of the effort and training it takes to achieve excellence, plus the musicality developed, can all lead to a lifetime of appreciation of the arts, or it could lead to a wonderful career in the performing arts.
With such an amazing, continuing lifelong career herself in the performing arts, Gina is blessed to still be personally learning, mentoring, and training students, with plans to continue sharing her wealth of knowledge and experience with today’s and tomorrow’s artists for many more seasons to come.
